I found the greatest way to find new music when you’re broke, don’t have internet or just live under a rock during festival season! Just ask a friend to keep you updated on good bands… if you trust your friend to have decent taste in music.
To be honest, I wasn’t broke, clearly have an internet connection and perhaps I’m living under a rock but I was too stubborn to go to one of Belgian’s biggest festivals, just because… well… I didn’t like the line up. It’s as simple as that. Anyways, I got a text saying: “Car Seat Headrest!” Short, to the point and tonight I finally got the time to listen to this American band (formed in 2010). Little did I know when I hit play… I already heard them once before:P.
Car Seat Headrest – Teens Of Denial
Within seconds hearing the first track on their last album – released in 2016 – Fill In The Blank, I smiled. It’s one of the songs on the Boyfriend’s playlist during our road trip holiday. Our music taste isn’t quite similar… Apparently I listen to moody songs – it’s called blues for crying out loud! On the contrary, his style is more the head banging kind on raging guitars with long hair and beards – which he claims it’s more varied than I realise… No seriously, he wanted to make me a Powerpoint presentation about all subgenres of metal: metalcore, postpunk hardcore something something metal, pirate metal… you read it right: pirate metal. No offence to those who listen to it, in the end I listen to weird stuff too:P.
Nevertheless, we do meet in the middle when it comes to more garage rock, hence our shared interest for bands like Car Seat Headrest. Check here the video for Vincent which is a nice mixture of psychedelic rock and garage rock. Now I actually wished I was at the festival:). Without further ado, just put on their record and I’ll be adding this one to my ‘music to buy’ list!
